Student-Athlete Academic Support Services (SAASS) supports students in balancing their academic and athletic demands. SAASS provides comprehensive academic support to over 550 students across 22 sports and spirit teams in the following areas: Advising, Learning Specialists, Mentoring, Tutoring, Study Hall, and through our facilities in the Quillen Family Academic Center. A SAASS Academic Counselor is assigned to each team and takes the lead in coordinating the academic support for each team member.
Our Mission
We are committed to providing fundamental and supplemental programming, consistent with University and NCAA policy, aimed at enhancing each student-athlete's educational experience.
We support student-athletes in balancing their academic and athletic demands by providing comprehensive academic support services such as tutoring, studying assistance, computing technology, and academic and individual skill development programs.

SAASS provides a collaborative process between the student-athlete and SAASS Academic Counselors alongside college advisors to make responsible academic and career decisions while maintaining NCAA eligibility requirements and scheduling around athletic events.

The Learning Assistance Program (LAP) exists to provide additional services to the student-athletes who need extra academic support. LAP has various levels of support and houses the Learning Specialists, Mentor Program, and Tutor Program.

The SAASS Study Hall program provides a structured approach to studying. Study Hall hours are arranged by sport and determined by SAASS Academic Counselors. Study Hall sessions are monitored and quiet so that students can work and reinforce consistent study habits.
Our Facilities
The Quillen Family Academic Center is located on the 3rd floor of Lane Stadium and is home to the SAASS staff as well as provides academic resources for student-athletes including individual tutor room, group study spaces, a conference room, a classroom, and a computer lab.
Athletic Academic Awards
Each semester, season, and academic year, student-athletes are recognized for their hard work on and off the field, celebrating their achievements in the classroom. The Athletic Academic Awards are, but not limited to, A.D. Honor Roll, ACC Honor Roll, ACC All-Academic Team, ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year, and the most prestigious award within the Virginia Tech Athletics Department, the Skelton Award.
