Athletic Academic Awards

Skelton Award

In 1996 Peggy and Bill Skelton established the Skelton Award for Academic Excellence to honor outstanding student-athletes at Virginia Tech. Each year, one male and one female student-athlete are chosen to receive this scholarship award based upon their participation in athletics, their academic excellence, and their demonstrated leadership abilities. The recipients are presented with the award each spring at the annual Athletic Directors Honors celebration. The Skelton Award for Academic Excellence is recognized as the most prestigious award within the Virginia Tech Athletics Department.

AD Honor Roll

Each semester, any student-athlete who earns a 3.00 GPA for the semester is recognized on the Virginia Tech Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year

At the conclusion of each season of competition, the Atlantic Coast Conference will choose one student-athlete from a member institution as the ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year. These student-athletes are in their 3rd of 4th year of competition and is awarded on 60% academic achievement and 40% athletic achievement. They have also earned a 3.0 overall GPA as well as a 3.00 or better GPA during the previous two semesters.

ACC All-Academic Team

At the conclusion of each season of competition, the Atlantic Coast Conference will choose those student-athletes who excel in the classroom and in their respective sport to be recognized on the ACC All-Academic Team. To be considered student-athletes must have a 3.00 overall GPA or better and have earned a 3.00 or better GPA for the current term. During the selection process, primary consideration will be given to the student-athletes athletic accomplishments during the current athletic season.

ACC Honor Roll

Each academic year the Atlantic Coast Conference recognizes those student-athletes from each member institution who earns a 3.00 overall GPA for the year.
